What We Do

CSR partnerships – Salboni, West Bengal and Paradip, Odisha

‘JSV’ partners with “JSW” Group in operating its healthcare-linked CSR program at Salboni and Paradip. We bring professional planning, operational efficiency and focussed impact through our organisation’s depth of expertise in healthcare. Started in 2011, the program has grown in capacity and stature; it has attracted numerous international recognition.

Rural women trained as ‘Health Assistants’ take part in the healthcare delivery process, screening for diseases, health education among communities and school children across multiple streams – ORS preparation and distribution, immunisation, anaemia/undernutrition, mass deworming, WASH programs at schools, Cervical cancer, Breast cancer, Diabetes, Hypertension etc..

20000+ patients are treated every year
56% of the patients are women & children
26% of our patients are below 12 yrs of age

School for Skills: Allied Health Sciences

9 centres, 2 states, over 2000 trained, over 80% placement success

165 million rural youth in 16-24 yrs age group in India; around just 10% of them with access to higher education (beyond middle school) and a 5.0 million staff shortage among Allied Health Professionals – this is the backdrop of JSV’s flagship paramedical training program – “School for Skills: Allied Health Sciences” which started at Suri, Birbhum in 2013 under the mentorship of Prof. Amitabha Ghosh, Former Director IIT Kharagpur.

Our team of specialist doctors across the world have contributed to writing study materials which are exclusive to ‘JSV’. Available in multiple languages, we believe this is our biggest USP.

Imaginative design of the curriculum that combines deep industry knowledge of the doctor- promoters with understanding of the students’ specific intellectual circumstances makes our students better prepared, either in the line of duty or in interviews.

Over 50% of our students are girls
71% of our students come from families with gross annual income below INR 98000
84% of the students receive placement within 2 months of passing out

‘JSV’ has been awarded the responsibility of training 1750 rural students (from SC/ST Background) as Rural care-givers, based on our earlier experience. They will be deployed to deliver rural primary care as entrepreneurs.

This is the only centre in West Bengal recognised by the Government where SC/ST students will be reimbursed their tuition fee following successful certification and enrolment in a job.

Operation & Management of Salboni Super-speciality Hospital (Salboni, West Midnapore, in Public-private-partnership model sponsored by JSW Foundation)

150 beds, >600 out-patients/day, >80% capacity utilisation

Uday - E-health Clinic network

Rural youth are trained as “Frontline Health Worker” (affiliated with NSDC) with knowledge of basic healthcare & diseases; fundamental clinical skills and ability to use a primary care software (developed by our foundation – Foundation for Innovations in Health) in association with JHU, USA that guides them with seeking relevant clinical information about a patient’s problems and symptoms, and undertake limited physical examination. This data is then shared real-time with a remote doctor who advises on treatment (medicines, tests and referrals to government hospitals). In addition to a fixed centre, there are also cycle-borne health workers that travel from door to door in rural areas and deliver home healthcare.

This program has been initially supported by a grant from the Department of Science & Technology under its SEED scheme (Science for Equity, Empowerment & Development) at multiple sites at Sunderbans and Barhra, Birbhum.

IIT Kharagpur, through leadership of Prof. Suman Chakraborty and other globally acclaimed institutions (University of California at Irvine, University of Edinburgh, IIT Guwahati, Tecnológico de Monterrey etc.) are technology partners in this initiative to introduce mass market affordable innovative diagnostic technologies that work in rural circumstances.

The model is intended to be self-sustaining and owned and operated by rural entrepreneurs. JSV is now in the middle of implanting a government mandate to establish 350 such centres across various districts of West Bengal.

Salboni Super-speciality Hospital, Salboni, West Medinipur, West Bengal

The Government of West Bengal, through a public-private-partnership agreement, has handed over the hospital to “JSW Group”. The group has entrusted us with the responsibility for ‘Total Operation & Management’ of the hospital, as part of its CSR activity.

This modern 150-bed hospital caters to a hinterland of 3.3 million people with speciality services such as Laparoscopic surgery, CT Scan, Dialysis, ICU and NICU which were not hitherto available to the target population. The surrounding population is mostly of low and very low income groups, who would otherwise incur heavy secondary expenses in order to avail of these speciality services in urban centres.

The hospital has full-time post-graduate doctors in all medical disciplines, trained and certified nurses and technicians and is supported by an able administrative team; all resident within or near the campus.

We see >600 outpatients per day; enjoy >80% capacity utilisation in In-patients; we have 21% Caesarean Section rate; 75% of all patents are treated at no ‘out-of-pocket’ cost; only 25% of beds are ‘paying’ beds.

This is a not-for-profit hospital, funded by CSR funds from JSW Group.
